Meet vetiveah
FARMER, FOOD JUSTICE EDUCATOR & ADVOCATE
Vetiveah Immanuel is a nationally recognized food justice advocate, urban farmer, educator, and Certified Life Coach with over a decade of experience advancing equitable food systems, community health, and land sovereignty. Rooted in both lived experience and professional expertise, her work bridges the intersections of agriculture, nutrition, cultural foodways, and policy advocacy. From her early years as a picky eater homeschooler unknowingly shaped by her family's natural living and skincare business, to becoming a bold voice for food justice across Connecticut and beyond, Vetiveah has led, built, and contributed to dozens of transformative initiatives. She is the founder of Radiance Gardens, a coaching and garden education platform centered on healing the mind, body, and soil. She is also a co-founder and manager of the Liberated Land Cooperative, a BIPOC-led CSA and advocacy network reclaiming food access and agricultural power for Black and Brown communities. Her extensive career includes roles with organizations such as CitySeed, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, FoodCorps, Emerge CT, and FRESH New London, where she has managed food entrepreneurship incubators, taught culturally relevant garden and nutrition education, and built out mobile farmers markets and food access programs. Her leadership extends into policy, having served on numerous boards and committees, including the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Land, Capital, Access, and Market Advisory Committee, CT NOFA, the CT Food Sovereignty Collective, and the New CT Farmer Alliance Policy Committee. She has been a passionate advocate for the Justice for Black Farmers Act, farm-to-school legislation, and funding for climate-smart agriculture and land access for BIPOC farmers. She is also a seasoned public speaker and facilitator, with appearances at the Yale Food Systems Symposium, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, and panels on land justice, nutrition equity, and Black entrepreneurship. Vetiveah has co-written culturally responsive curriculum, designed food literacy workshops for youth and adults, and built coalitions that elevate community voices and solutions. Her calling is clear: to liberate communities through faith, food, and land. With a prophetic vision for healing foodways and restoring cultural connection, Vetiveah empowers others to grow, nourish, and reclaim what has been lost.
